Meet Janie Loubser

Janie Loubser—Clinical Psychologist based in George, the Garden Route —or online. I’m an HPCSA-registered Clinical Psychologist, with a BA in Law and an MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Stellenbosch. For the past 16 years, I’ve run my own successful practice — first at an Integrative Medicine Practice in Durbanville, then at a bustling medical practice in Mouille Point, Cape Town. I now work from my home in George, offering a calm and private space for clients to gain insight and create lasting change.

Individual therapy: From Understanding to Effective Change

Many high-functioning, capable people reach a point where forward movement slows or stops. We are accustomed to responsibility, productivity, and competence. We give generously—to our families, our work, and others—often without pause. We are ambitious, reflective, and used to managing complexity.

At times, a life event, prolonged strain, loss, illness, or cumulative pressure disrupts the internal balance that once allowed things to work. Functioning may continue, but clarity, ease, or momentum does not. Life can begin to feel constrained, repetitive, or stalled. For people who are used to coping well, this can be both confusing and frustrating.

Effective therapy requires more than insight alone. While self-awareness is essential, it must be integrated with clear therapeutic goals and a structured treatment plan. Without this balance, reflection can become circular rather than corrective.

My work is grounded in evidence-based psychological treatment, combined with careful formulation, goal-setting, and ongoing review. Together, we work to understand what has shifted, define what needs to change, and implement interventions that support sustainable progress. The focus is on restoring clarity, agency, and forward movement—while remaining aligned with who you are.

In some treatment plans, progress is best supported through a more targeted, symptom-focused approach. When individuals present with clearly defined challenges—such as social anxiety, panic symptoms, chronic pain, overeating, or persistent unhelpful habits—additional therapeutic methods may be indicated.

Where appropriate, clinical hypnotherapy is integrated as part of a structured psychological treatment plan. Its use is guided by careful assessment and formulation, with specific therapeutic goals and ongoing review. This work is focused on modifying conditioned responses and automatic patterns that can maintain distress, particularly when insight and reflection alone are not sufficient.
